Congratulations to all of the South Hamilton Band and Vocal students on their outstanding preparation for the IHSMA State Large Group contest. This preparation actually starts at the beginning of the school year and ends with their “final exams” at this festival and the spring concert, which will be held on Tuesday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. The Band, Treble Clef Choir, and Bass Clef Choir all received Division I ratings, the highest rating possible. The Mix Choir also sang very well and received a Division II rating.

The band played “Flourish for Wind Band” by Ralph Vaughn Williams and “Chinese Folk Rhapsody” by Richard Brown. The Treble Clef Choir sang “And This Shall Be for Music” by Mary Lynn Lightfoot and “Come in From the Firefly Darkness” by Amy Bernon. The Bass Clef Choir sang “A Trilogy of Knighthood” by Julie Gardner Bray and “The Arrow and the Song” by Joseph M. Martin. The Mixed Choir sang “All Things Bright and Beautiful” by John Rutter and “I’se the B’y” arranged by Robert Swift. All of this music and more will be performed at the concert on May 15.

All four of these groups represented South Hamilton very well on Saturday both on stage and by their cooperation in dealing with the logistics involved in making this day run smoothly. Congratulations students, your directors are very proud.
